Position Overview: 

Based on the Seattle waterfront, we are looking to employ a supervisor to oversee the evening custodian team.  This person ensures the crew are productive and completes their tasks of cleaning the Clipper vessels and facility.  The supervisor works along side with their crew, helping them clean, with attention to detail, and preparing the boat for the next sailing. Our goal is to be the best host to our guests, and the evening cleaning crew is an important contribution to that goal.

This position is full-time, year-round and reports to the Crewing & Training Manager

About the Successful Candidate

The ideal person for this position is a confident and fair leader, and a consistent role model for their team.  The successful candidate will be self-motivated and responsive to resolve employee issues in a respectful manner, and supportive of the needs of their team.

Cleaning Job Duties

  • Detailed cleaning of the vessels when they return to port, including disinfecting tables/seat back trays. Sanitizing, vacuuming, mopping, floor waxing, carpet shampooing, collect trash/recyclables and empty in the collection bins, restrooms, and other areas on the vessels
  • Detailed cleaning the facility, including the ticketing and boarding lounges, restrooms, offices
  • Prep guest boarding lounge for the next departure
  • Operating the electrical hoist to swing luggage bins off the vessels
  • Handling mooring lines – No dockhand experience? We’ll train you!

Supervisor Job Duties

  • Oversee the crew duties and ensuring completion of daily checklists
  • Keep the MSDS binders updated and compliant. Update labeling of chemical bottles
  • Maintain relevant documents in tracking software
  • Overseeing and publishing all Shore-Support-related schedules and announcements, in partnership with the Crewing & Training Manager
  • Assist with ordering of food, beverages, supplies, etc. for the vessels and Seattle terminal office
  • Training new employees and provide refresher training throughout the year to all Shore Support personnel
  • Assist with monthly and quarterly inventory

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • 2 years of supervising and motivating a team
  • 2 years of custodial experience; light general maintenance/repair experience is a plus
  • Prior experience using Microsoft Office tools, including Excel and Outlook
  • Superior record for punctuality and reliability
  • Exceptional time management with little oversight
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • An eye for detail and a commitment to high standards of cleaning
  • Self-motivated and strong work ethic
  • Bending, stooping, lifting, carrying, climbing ladders, pushing / pulling up to 75 pounds manually
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) is required within 30 days of employment (company fully reimburses for cost)

Your primary job will involve high interaction with passengers, food service and tour sales, and being an all-around great host to our guests onboard the boat. FRS Clipper seeks individuals who share our passion and love of the Pacific Northwest and want to join us onboard as the Able Seafarer (Deck).  The Able Seafarer is a key member of the team providing safe and efficient operation of our fast ferry vessel, HSC Victoria Clipper V, and fulfills an essential role in the safe and reliable transportation of our guests.  This position is excellent for accruing higher tonnage and STCW sea time for license advancement. Clipper is homeported in Seattle and travels daily to Victoria B.C., Canada.  You will return home every night you work!  Currently the position is Seasonal – full time or part time.  Part-time relief work could also be an option.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mooring operations on deck
  • Crane operations for loading/unloading of luggage, cargo and stores
  • Key member emergency response team, including operation of rescue boats, deployment of life rafts, crowd control, fire team response and damage control
  • Lookout responsibilities as assigned by the Master
  • Cleaning und upkeep of cabin and heads while underway
  • Assist cabin crew with replenishment of galley stores
  • Support and assist with vessel maintenance and repairs
