Position Overview: The Product Manager is responsible for the delivery of key product development projects in a manner that meets Clipper’s strategic goals and objectives. Ensuring that partner relationships are cultivated and that they promote the image of Clipper as an efficient and professional company.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (not limited to the following):

  • Identify and assist the Sr. Product Manager with developing new business opportunities that have the potential to deliver additional revenue to Clipper
  • Working with Sr. Product Manager, continue to develop the Clipper product offering that have potential to deliver additional revenue
  • Regularly analyze performance of Clipper Vacations products and revenue, generate relevant reports and action plans
  • Manage current product performance; Identify and communicate product gaps and needs, by analyzing revenue data and our customer experience

This is a highly visible position as the subject-matter expert of the reservation system, which is the heart of Clipper’s ability to conduct business. Working closely with all departments at all levels, and reporting to the head of IT, this position is responsible for loading and adjusting all offerings in the reservation system.

This role consults and actively participates in planning and execution of business rules in the reservation system and ecommerce website and represents the reservation system requirements in business analysis and planning.

This is a great position for someone with a background in systems administration and business analysis, data entry with a knack for technology and great people skills.

Duties & responsibilities:

Product & Services Management

  • Manages all the products available in reservation system, e.g. packages, hotels, transportation, tours.
  • Annually loads all products, fares, fees, schedules, policies, packages, sales, promotion codes, allocations, etc. in the reservation system and adjust throughout the year as needed.
  • Reviews the reservation system to ensure all data entered is correct and adheres to business requirements and technical requirements.

Business Analysis

  • Conducts business analysis & project management of software functionality, including documenting and reproducing software bugs, reviewing solution documents, finding new needs/solutions, developing test/user cases.
  • Adapts or identifies new developments in the reservation system to support business needs across all departments.

Technical Support & Customer Service

  • Troubleshoots and resolves any software bugs, price discrepancies, functionality questions, etc.
  • Provides technical support to the reservations, sales, marketing, product departments with customers and partners.
  • Proactively assists with partner and external customer escalations.

This position works directly with customers to book group travel packages of 20 or more people in Clipper’s core destinations throughout the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada. This position manages the entire sales cycle from beginning to day of travel.

  • Meet and exceed quarterly and yearly sales goals relating to group sales
  • Manage group sales process from the beginning, acting as a single point of contact throughout the buying process
  • Secure new business and maximize the value of existing accounts
  • Ensure customer satisfaction
  • Use creativity and innovation to explore new ways to increase revenue
  • Quote and negotiate group agreements based upon established rate parameters, forecasted demand, and all other potential auxiliary revenue streams

David Gudgel, Chief Executive Officer

David joined Clipper in April of 2014 as the VP of Business Development, was promoted to COO in January of 2015 and then promoted to co-CEO in May of 2017. David has been involved in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska travel industry for more than 27 years.  He began his career working for Holland America Line as a tour bus driver in Juneau, Alaska as a summer job during college.

David stayed with Holland America Line in several different capacities for over 15 years, spending the last 6 of those as the General Manager for Gray Line of Seattle and Horizon Coach Lines.  It was during this period that he first began working with Clipper as a partner in providing Northwest Getaways and in providing emergency services. David is a graduate of Gonzaga University and earned a B.S. in Business Administration.
