FRS Clipper Reveals the Name of Its New Whale Watching Vessel, Debuting Spring 2026

SEATTLE, WA (December 18, 2025) – Seattle’s only whale watching operator is making a splash: FRS Clipper today revealed Emerald Clipper, a faster, larger catamaran launching in Spring 2026 from Pier 69. The new vessel will double the company’s capacity, giving more guests the chance to enjoy unforgettable marine adventures. 2026 tours are now available for booking at frs-clipper.com/whales.

FRS Clipper’s Emerald Clipper sets a new standard for whale watching in the Pacific Northwest. This 103-foot, state-of-the-art catamaran offers passengers unparalleled comfort and views, with two sheltered outdoor decks and floor-to-ceiling windows—the largest ever on a regional whale watching vessel. Onboard amenities include a galley serving hot meals and a dedicated naturalist station, where guests can deepen their understanding of the region’s rich marine life.Designed by One2Three Naval Architects in Sydney, Australia, and built by Mavrik Marine, Inc. in La Conner, Washington, the vessel combines advanced design with passenger comfort and efficiency. Emerald Clipper will replace the company’s current whale watching vessel, the MV San Juan Clipper.

“Demand for our whale watching tours has never been stronger,” said Mark Collins, CEO of FRS Clipper. “This past summer, many of our sailings sold out days in advance, with nearly every trip at or near full capacity. With Emerald Clipper, we will be able to offer two sailings per day, welcoming up to 300 guests, and allowing us to educate more people about the incredible wildlife and natural wonders of the Salish Sea.”

“Emerald Clipper guests will enjoy sweeping views of the region’s coastal waters,” said FRS Clipper Staff Captain Jason Mihok. “Each tour is a chance to see humpbacks breaching, gray whales feeding, and orcas hunting.”

The name Emerald Clipper is a reference to Seattle’s nickname, the Emerald City. The moniker was inspired by the region’s breathtaking natural landscape, including the lush, evergreen forests surrounding the city. Beyond whales, local waters are home to bald eagles, seals, sea lions, and other coastal wildlife. These encounters, set against dramatic landscapes, create an experience that is both educational and awe-inspiring.

Emerald Clipper embodies FRS Clipper’s commitment to growth, sustainability, and world-class whale watching experiences. The company looks forward to welcoming guests on board in the spring of 2026, while also celebrating 40 years of connecting Seattle and Victoria through its ferry service.

In addition to reservations for 2026, whale watching tour gift cards are available for purchase at frs-clipper.com/whales.
