Point was inspired after discovering the pre-carved red cedar log on Ross Bay Beach in Victoria. Furthermore, he crafted it to represent a bridge between the First Nation peoples and those whose ancestors arrived in Victoria later.<\/p>\n<p>Want to see the building\u2019s signature dome from a different perspective? More than 3,600 lightbulbs on their exterior illuminate the structure with a dramatic glow. It&#8217;s a tradition dating back to 1897, when 350 lights were placed on the building to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria. Originally only used for special occasions, they&#8217;ve been switched on nightly since 1965.<\/p>\n<p><em>(Psst \u2013 Swing by at Christmas time when red and green bulbs get added to the mix.
