Seattle, WA – February 18, 2015 – Gray whale season is almost here, and there is no better way to view these magnificent mammals than on one of Clipper Vacations’ Gray Whale Watching Excursions. This is Clipper Vacations’ sixth season offering the excursion, which allows passengers enjoy the majestic gray whales as they migrate north each year from Baja, Mexico to Alaska with their calves in tow. Reaching up to 50 feet in length and weighing up to 35 tons, these baleen whales are quite a sight to see. The whales are often spotted feeding close to shore in the shallow waters between Seattle and north Whidbey Island, and can be easily seen from the outside and inside seating areas on the triple-decked San Juan Clipper.

What makes these Whale and Sealife Search excursions unique is they also feature a two hour stop on Whidbey Island, providing passengers a chance to get off the boat to enjoy a bite to eat, shop or a walk on the beach. This year travelers have the option of choosing a trip that visits the historic town of Coupeville or the waterfront village of Langley. Visitors to Coupeville can check out the red wharf building, which contains the skeletons of a gray whale, a porpoise and a sea lion. While passengers who visit the Langley stop can explore the many jewelers, antiques and clothing boutiques in this artist’s mecca.

One of the other popular features of these weekend trips is the opportunity to view other sealife, such as Dall’s porpoises, harbor seals, otters, sea lions, bald eagles and other birds. A trained naturalist will be onboard to help spot these animals, as well as educate passengers about them and answer any questions.

The best time to view gray whales in Puget Sound is in early spring. Victoria Clipper departures are available on March 21, 22, 28, 29; April 4, 11, 12, 18 and 19. The $69 rate is available for all adult departures when booked at least three days in advance and kids under age 11 are only $34.50. For more information or to make a reservation, please call 800-888-2535 or visit www.clippervacations.com. Make sure to book early, as the gray whale excursion is popular and tends to sell out.
