Rocky Mountaineer First Passage to the West

2 day/1 night rail only package

Rocky Mountaineer First Passage West

Named for the pass over which it crosses the Canadian Rockies, the Rocky Mountaineer First Passage to the West train route takes you between Vancouver, BC, and either Banff or Calgary, AB with an overnight stay in Kamloops, BC. This route traces the historic transcontinental rail line that united Canada's East and West and includes, amongst other highlights, the legendary Spiral Tunnels. Both Eastbound and Westbound itineraries are available for a fully customizable trip.

Vancouver to Kamloops

From Vancouver, British Columbia, your Rockies vacation begins as you board the luxurious Rocky Mountaineer passenger train at Vancouver's Pacific Central Station. As you make your way west to Kamloops, British Columbia, you'll pass through the fertile fields of the Fraser River Valley and towering peaks of the Coastal Mountains. Here, the Fraser River violently passes through Hell's Gate, creating stunning landforms visible from the comfort of your seat. During your overnight stay in Kamloops, visit the Rhythms on the Rails for some live Canadian entertainment!

Kamloops to Banff or Calgary

Continue east through the vast ranchlands along the South Thompson River, pass Craigellachie, where the Last Spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven, and enter Rogers Pass, with its tunnels, snowsheds and glistening glaciers. This Rocky Mountain rail tour then climbs through the Spiral Tunnels and over the Continental Divide to Banff National Park. In Banff, Clipper Vacations offers a wide selection of scenic and wildlife tours that will bring you to some of Canada’s most stunning landscapes. While staying in Banff, choose from the Discover Banff tour including the Banff Gondola, Lake Minnewanka Cruise, the Evening Wildlife Tour and Cruise and more. End your rail journey in Banff or continue on to Calgary the same evening after a brief stop.
